Journals Benefit Tripled

By Jed Weisberger

IWDBA members have enjoyed a subscription to the Journal of Veterinary Behavior: Clinical Applications and Research since 2005. Through 2020, this subscription included both on-line access to current and previously published issues plus a paper copy.

We have made a change for 2021. The journal subscription will continue through an online portal at https://www.iwdba.org that can be reached by clicking on the JOURNALS tab in the top-level menu of the home page. By eliminating the delivery of a paper copy, we were able to triple the benefit to our members by adding on-line access to two additional peer-reviewed journals: the Journal of Genetics and Genomicsand Animal Behaviour.

Upon reaching the journals portal at https://www.iwdba.org/journal-access/ click on any of the three journal’s images and a new browser tab will open on the ScienceDirect website. If a member is accessing the journals through the portal for the first time, you may be asked to log in, using your existing account, or clicking an option at the bottom of the page to continue as an anonymous user.

Access to journals through the on-line portal continues for as long as your account is current. If your IWDBA membership lapses, payment of the current year’s IWDBA membership fee will restore access to the journals.

A brief synopsis of what benefits each of these journals provide:

  • The Journal of Genetics and Genomics (JGG, formerly known as Acta Genetica Sinica ) is an international journal publishing peer-reviewed articles of novel and significant discoveries in the fields of genetics and genomics. Topics of particular interest include but are not limited to molecular genetics, developmental genetics, cytogenetics, epigenetics, medical genetics, population and evolutionary genetics, genomics, and functional genomics as well as bioinformatics and computational biology.

The main article types include original research, review, method article, letter to the editor, resource, highlight, and meeting report. Currently, JGG is indexed by Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E), Medline, Scopus, Biosis Previews and Chemical Abstracts. JGG publishes papers in English only and is distributed internationally.

  • Animal Behaviour, first published in 1953, is a leading international publication and has wide appeal, containing critical reviews, original papers, and research articles on all aspects of animal behaviour. Book Reviews and Books Received sections are also included.

Growing interest in behavioural biology and the international reputation of Animal Behaviour prompted an expansion to monthly publication in 1989. The publication continues to be the journal of choice for biologists, ethologists, psychologists, physiologists, and veterinarians with an interest in the subject. Research areas include Behavioural ecology, Evolution of behaviour, Sociobiology, Ethology, Behavioural psychology, Behavioural physiology, Population biology, Sensory behaviour and Navigation and migration.

  • Journal of Veterinary Behavior: Clinical Applications and Research is an international journal that focuses on all aspects of veterinary behavioral medicine, with a particular emphasis on clinical applications and research. Articles cover such topics as basic research involving normal signalingor social behaviors, welfare and/or housing issues, molecular or quantitative genetics, and applied behavioral issues (working dogs etc.) that may have implications for clinical interest or assessment.

The publication is also the official journal of the Australian Veterinary Behaviour Interest Group, the British Veterinary Behaviour Association, Gesellschaft fur Tierverhaltensmedizin und Therapie, the International Working Dog Breeding Association, the Pet Professional Guild, the Association Veterinaire Suisse pour la Medecine Comportementale, The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior and the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists.

It also provides many author benefits, such as free ShareLinks for the first 50 days after publication, a liberal copyright policy, special discounts on Elsevier publications and much more.  Please go to https://www.elsevier.com/journals/journal-of-veterinary-behavior/1558-7878/guide-for-authors for information on article submission.
